Learn all about our growth journey!
Made On My Patch is a sustainable community-based food growing programme that invites individuals with similar lived experiences to learn how to plan, produce, and enjoy food grown in their own homes or shared spaces. Operating in Wirral, Cheshire, and beyond, our core mission is to empower participants while building supportive, interconnected communities.
The Made On My Patch programme is built around the Patch Network model. Piloted successfully in 2024 with 10 households, a network includes:
- Up to ten households: With Individuals using any accessible space (indoors or outdoors) to grow a wide variety of edible produce.
- A Patch Leader & Professional Gardener: Providing expert guidance and mentorship.
- A Sponsoring Garden Centre: Offering vital resources and support.
- A Link Food Bank: Ensuring surplus produce is shared with the wider community.
What Can Participants Gain From This?
People join a Patch Network for a variety of reasons, including:
- Skill Development: Learning the full cycle of gardening, from designing a patch to nurturing growth.
- Community & Connection: Making new friends and building confidence in social settings.
- Food Security: Accessing and sharing fresh, healthy produce that they grew themselves.
The programme runs a full season, starting with an onboarding and a baseline survey to tailor support.
Key elements include:
- Monthly Workshops/Socials: Hands-on sessions covering crucial stages of the gardening season.
- Digital Support: An active WhatsApp group for continuous encouragement and updates.
- Community Contribution: Surplus produce is donated to the link food bank, reinforcing a cycle of giving.
The pilot programme was a resounding success, with all participants completing the season, developing skills, making new friends, and feeling part of a supportive community.
Having established a successful model, we are now looking to grow our patches into 2026 and beyond!
